Free memory games for adults

Five short brain games that change every day: remember colors, patterns, numbers, words and rhythms. No sign-up, no endless scrolling, about ten minutes a day.

Most “brain games for adults” are either childish or buried in ads and subscriptions. Daily Recall is different: five quick memory games, each testing a different kind of memory, with a new puzzle every day that’s the same for everyone. Play them all in about ten minutes, compare scores with friends, and you’re done for the day.

The five games

Hue: color memory

Study a scene for eight seconds, then rebuild its five colors from memory with sliders. At the end you see your version next to the real one, which is usually funnier than you’d expect. It tests memory for color, which is far weaker than most people think.

Signal: rhythm and sequence

Four pads light up in a pattern with notes. Play it back in order and on the beat. Later rounds get faster, and some go backwards. More on sequence memory.

Recall: visual memory

Tiles light up on a grid, then go dark. Tap the ones you saw. Each level adds one more. More on visual memory.

Sequence: numbers

Digits flash one by one; type them back. A classic test of short-term memory. More on number memory.

Words: recognition

Is this word new, or have you seen it already in this game? Easy at first, tricky as the list grows. More on verbal memory.

Why daily games work better than endless ones

Every game here has one daily puzzle, the same for everyone. When you’re done, you’re done. That makes it a small, satisfying habit rather than another app that eats your evening, and it means your scores are comparable from day to day and with friends.

There’s also unlimited practice mode if you want to warm up, and a stats page that shows your trends over two weeks.

Play with friends and family

  • Challenge links: after a daily game, send a link. Your friend plays the exact same puzzle and sees your score to beat.
  • Groups: start a group for family, friends or coworkers and compete on a weekly leaderboard.
  • Party mode: play Signal live with friends on the same patterns at the same time.

Extras that make it stick

Every game earns Sparks, which you spend building your own Memory Palace. Play all four classic games to unlock your Memory Profile, which shows whether you’re a Hawk, Owl, Elephant, Dolphin or Fox. And streaks reward coming back each day, with streak freezes so one missed day doesn’t wipe you out.

A note on “brain training”

You’ll get better at these games with practice. Whether that makes you better at remembering everyday things is less clear, and we’d rather be honest about it; our article Do brain games actually work? explains the research. Think of these games as a fun, mentally active way to spend ten minutes, not a medical treatment.
